School-age speech-language services at the ASU Speech and Hearing Clinic are for children ages six to 22. Parents are invited to join at specified times for consultation and home practice training. Sessions are led by graduate students studying speech-language pathology under the supervision of licensed speech language pathologists holding the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association.

After School Articulation and Phonology

ASAP addresses speech, sound articulation and phonology needs for kids aged six and up. These small group sessions provide practice for correct speech sound production for /r/,/s/ and other speech sound and intelligibility concerns. Sessions are tailored to the individual needs of the child.

Literacy and Language

Literacy and Language sessions are designed for children and teens who require additional practice with reading and writing skills. These skills are supported by building phonological and phonemic awareness and language skills that are the foundation of literacy.

Small group sessions incorporate reducing stress and resistance to literacy practice. Sessions address needs such as phonological and phonemic awareness, reading, decoding, listening comprehension, reading comprehension, vocabulary, spelling and writing.

Among Friends

Among Friends is for children who have a speech fluency (cluttering) or stuttering concern. This program supports successful speaking across settings (home, school, etc.) and practicing communicating with relaxed confidence. Activities are designed to help increase understanding and acceptance of fluent and disfluent speech. Structured practice adds to group members’ toolbox of speech strategies.
